1. What is JEE Main?

JEE Main is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate engineering programs in NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and other engineering colleges. It also serves as the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, which is required for admission to IITs.

2. Who is eligible for JEE Main?

  • Candidates must have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • There is no age limit, but candidates can attempt the exam only in the year they pass Class 12 and the next two years.
  • Candidates must have studied at least five subjects in their qualifying examination.

3. How many times is JEE Main conducted in a year?

JEE Main is conducted twice a year (January and April sessions). Candidates can appear in either one or both sessions, and the best score is considered for ranking.

4. What is the exam pattern of JEE Main?

  • Paper 1 (for B.E./B.Tech) – Computer-Based Test (CBT)
    • Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry (Total: 90 questions, 300 marks)
    • Each subject has 30 questions (20 MCQs + 10 numerical, of which 5 are to be answered).
  • Paper 2A (for B.Arch) – CBT + Pen-Paper Mode
    • Mathematics (CBT), Aptitude (CBT), and Drawing (Pen-Paper)
  • Paper 2B (for B.Plan) – CBT Mode
    • Mathematics, Aptitude, Planning-Based Questions

5. Is there negative marking in JEE Main?

Yes, 1 mark is deducted for each incorrect MCQ. However, numerical-based questions have no negative marking.

6. How is JEE Main rank calculated?

The best score from multiple attempts (if applicable) is used to calculate the NTA percentile, and the final rank is based on this percentile score.

7. What is the validity of JEE Main score?

JEE Main score is valid for one academic year.

8. How should I prepare for JEE Main?

  • Understand the syllabus and focus on NCERT books.
  • Practice previous years’ papers and mock tests.
  • Time management and conceptual clarity are key to success.
